Charles-Amable Lenoir, 1860–1926, was a French academic painter and painted realistic portrait paintings as well as works of mythological and religious scenes. His artistic career was so prestigious that he won the Prix de Rome twice. In 1900, he won a bronze medal at the world's fair in Paris for Le Calme (The Calm), an oil painting of his new wife, Eugénie Lucchesi. In tribute to his lasting appeal, Lenoir was appointed a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1903. In order to commemorate him, a monument was erected in 1937 which stands to this day.
