Thomas Moran, 1837-1926, was an American painter of the Hudson River School whose oil painting featured the Rocky Mountains. Thomas Moran art revealed the scale and splendor of the Yellowstone, persuading President Grant that Yellowstone should be preserved as national park. The artist was elected to the membership of the National Academy of Design and produced numerous canvas art. Thomas Moran paintings are held in the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; The Three Tetons (1895) is displayed in the Oval Office of White House.
